Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce An Absolute Shower, a solo exhibition featuring the work of UK artist Will Barras. Barras will be showcasing more than 15 new original paintings and drawings in a wide assortment of media, including pen, pencil, acrylic, ink and spray paint on printed fabric, linen, canvas and paper. We did a post on Will Barras a few months back after seeing his work and a group show at the Scion Installation LA Space and he was easily one of our favorites. We have a ton of fantastic photos from that show you can see on our flickr feed. Barras will be in attendance at the opening reception on Saturday, June 7, 2008, from 8PM to midnight. The show will run through July 6.

We made a stop at the new Scrawl Collective opening “Special Relationship” at Scion’s Installation LA space last Saturday night and we were not dissapointed. While there was some great work over all, we were especially impressed with the work of Will Barras.
As with all of the UK based Scrawl Collective members, Barras belongs to the tagger-turned-gallery-artiist set and currently resides in London.
You can check out Barras’s website, but when we did a little homework and searched “Will Barras” on flickr, we struck gold. You can view the results from this as well as a few other scrawl collective shows here.

Britain’s Scrawl Collective is an emerging group of post-illustration urban romantics. They bring their ramped-up aesthetic energy to the States this week to curate the latest exhibition for Culver City’s Scion Installation Gallery. The Special Relationship group show focuses on the dialog and mutual influence between the street-art scenes in the US and the UK. Standout works include installations and original drawings from Will Barras, Mr. Jago, and PhiAsh, and other stars from that side of the pond.
