Written by Barbara Bestor with Kimberly Stevens, this book focuses on modern architecture in an area of Los Angeles called Silver Lake. A haven for non-conformists for over 100 years, Silver Lake has a wonderful collection of modern architecture including work by Rudolf Schindler, Richard Neutra, and Frank Lloyd Wright, among others. Filled with playful illustrations by Geoff McFetridge, the book explores architecture in an area unlike anywhere else in the world. The book itself has a graphic approach to its design, making it visually feel more like a well designed magazine than a stale architecture book. The combination of Geoff McFetridge’s illustrations and the book design seemed an appropriate fit for the informal rough beauty of the area. You can find the book here.
