Radiohead just released a new video for their song “House of Cards” from the album “In Rainbows”. No cameras or lights were used but two newer technologies were used: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced a colorful and stuck-in-time look for the exterior scenes in the video.
We just stumbled on to the motherload of Radiohead remixes through our friends over at Huster or Culture. We’re about halfway down the list and we are so not disappointed with this.
This list includes one track off the Amplive remixes everyone loved when we posted about a little while back. You can find the rest of them here.

Considering their reputation with publicity and interviews, I wonder how many Pitchfork executives it took to convince Radiohead to do an exclusive performance for the newly launched station. Needless to say I was pleased to see the video up. Radiohead is as sharp as ever and look to be happily promoting their new album. You hear the phrase “Album of the Year” get kicked around like Perez Hilton’s man boobs, but in the case of Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” we’ll happily agree. Having been out about four months now, we’re surprised it took this long for a remix album to surface, but Oakland based DJ Amplive has teamed with the likes of Del the Funky Homosapien and Too $hort to release an eight track album that adds something genuine in the vein of Danger Mouse’s Gray Album.
After an initial legal steel cage match, this album has been made available to download for free, for the moment. We suggest you download The Rainyday Remixes here while you still can.
Radiohead released a new album this past week titled In Rainbows. We say released but more explanation is required. The album is available for free on their website. Those who download the album are asked to contribute what they feel is appropriate. A discbox (shown above) is also available containing the album on CD, two 12 inch records, an enhanced CD with addtional songs, and additional materials in a harback book with slipcase. The package costs about $80.
This marks Radiohead’s seventh album and the first after the completion of their six album contract with EMI. All eyes in the music industry are on the new model which if successful is a real threat to the existing music distribution network.
In contrast to the fully layered sound of previous songs. Much of the album has a vacant sound (enhanced by the treatment of the vocals) reminiscent of being up at alone in the early hours of the morning. The audio sample below is from a song titled Weird Fishes_Arpeggi.
