In what seems to be the love child of an Eames classic and a Villain Chair, Danish studio Strictly Design has produced this slick Lobster Chair to fill your lounging needs.
The interior padding is offered in black leather with a backing of laminated walnut veneer and a chrome plated steel base. If your looking for something that screams “I run the studio” and want to avoid the standard Eames models everyone else has, this looks like a brilliant alternative.
We knew when we first saw Jeff Han’s demonstration of multi touch screen technology at TED that it was going to change the game. We found these videos of a product designer Scott Hobbs using his new creation, the Attigo to scratch his Mp3’s to pieces. We can wait to see what happens when you can add a third screen with an 808 to go along with these. We know, we know, you’re a DJ purist and don’t ever want to let your vinyl go. But consider, all your electronic sounds come from a computer before they hit the wax, so why not skip the middle man? We’re Just sayin.

We just found the first 100% biodegradable umbrella. The frame is made of bamboo and the clear canopy is a new bioplasic that is biodegradable and will “biodegrade in less than 5 years in any conventional landfill site” according to Pam & Co., the company who produces this green creation. The Brelli is the brainchild of Pam Zonsius, a New York based entrepreneur who was inspired to create a more eco-friendly version of the umbrella when one day, after a rain, she saw the street littered with discarded and broken umbrellas. You can pick up your own at www.thebrelli.com
This is the most whimsical set of curtains that we have ever come across. Once you get over the almost too realistic nature of the design you can add a fairy tale/pop art touch to any room that has these. The curtains are made of 100% silk and designed by Dutch designer Nicolette Brunklaus. Imported from the Netherlands, a set of two panels will run you $1,850.00, and remember, blondes have more fun.
With the TED Conference going on right now, we thought we’d highlight a talk by Philippe Starck at last year’s conference. Philippe Starck, with no pretty slides behind him, spends 18 minutes reaching for the very roots of the question “Why design?” Along the way he drops brilliant insights into the human condition; listen carefully for one perfectly crystallized mantra for all of us, genius or not. Yet all this deep thought, he cheerfully admits, is to aid in the design of a better toothbrush. The full transcript is available here.
We picked up this sexy lil’ router the other day after our apple base-station took a dive. And, aside from looking so friggin’ cool, was the easiest setup we’ve ever encountered. Complete with 4 gigabit ports, an LED screen displaying what devices are on your network and, subsequently, how much bandwidth they’re pulling, this router finally answers that age old question; ‘Which roommate’s computer is downloading all those torrents?’ That, and we can FINALLY surf the internet on that hammock in the front yard.

In an ironic twist of fate, everything we’ve found on suck.uk.com is totally frickin awesome. We want of everything, starting with the Villain Chair (shown above) and followed closely by the reversible door mat. Finally a decent throne for the secret island hide out from which we put together your favorite website.
We don’t use the phrase “this could change everything” lightly or often because we save it for things like this. In this video NYU research scientist Jeff Han demonstrates his intuitive, “interface-free,” touch-driven computer screen, which can track multiple points (up to fifteen fingers between you and a friend) and is pressure sensitive. While Han points out that touch screens are nothing new, being able to contact them with multiple points changes the dynamics of the graphic user interface entirely. This demonstration takes the concept of the “virtual desktop” to a whole new level as the screen is set up at actual desk height and the interaction is remarkably similar to the way we use a physical workspace. We found out about this while doing a little research on Apple’s iPhone as they have already filed a few patents on this technology. If this ends up being co-opted in to Apple’s product design arsenal the way graphic user interface technology was in the early 80’s we will not be the least bit surprised.
