Say goodbye to driving with sun in the eyes caused by shiny buildings!The FLARE system consists of a number of tiltable metal flake bodies supplemented by individually computer controllable pneumatic cylinders. Each metal flake reflects either bright sky or sunlight when in vertical standby position. When a flake is tilted downwards, its face is shaded from the sky light and appears as a ‘dark pixel’. By reflecting ambient or direct sunlight, the individual flakes act like pixels formed by natural light. This idea seems like a natural combination for solar powered technology that could follow sun light around for a power source.

The Avenues of Art & Design are located along Melrose Avenue, Robertson and Beverly Boulevards. They are the West Coast’s premier destination of interior design studios, art galleries, showrooms, specialty shops and restaurants. Art Afficianados, Stylephiles, and Home Fashionistas alike will be toasting to the latest trends in design, fashion, art, and beauty during this mile long open house. Admission is free and Urth Café will provide free coffee drinks and tea as well as free Fiji Bottled Water that will be handed out at the six hospitality stations throughout the Avenues. Meters will not be enforced that day, so we are going to try for a front spot to purchase that couch we’ve been eyeing at Armani Casa.

We’ve been thinking about getting a little summer house. The 130,000 square-meter island of Nurai, located northeast of Abu Dhabi city, is about to be transformed into a absolutely stunning resort and exclusive private residential estates. New York based design firm, Studio Dror, led by Dror Benshetrit, and Paris-based AW2 will turn the area into a boutique luxury hotel resort with 60 suites, 31 beach front estates and 36 water villas.

The gorgeous multi-story water villas will span 515 square meters each and be made up of three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a private rooftop garden with a spa pool, private infinity pool, multiple decks, outdoor barbecue area, gourmet kitchen and concealed service quarters. As for the private Seaside residences, each will contain five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a private beach and garden, rooftop garden with spa pool, indoor reflecting pools, concealed service quarters, entertainment patios, outdoor dining areas, chef and show kitchens, and outdoor showers. The resort is due to open in 2010 and the prices for the residences start at $20 million.

While visiting the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, founder Karen Combs became inspired by a Chinese scroll painting. She arrived back at her 3,500 square foot studio and locked the doors for 2 months. The result was a 50-foot paper scroll. Liking the singular designs she had been doing, she distilled and repeated them over and over to come up with some pretty bold ways to dress up your space.

Nama Rococo enjoys asking themselves questions like: “What if Bootsy Collins played Versailles?” and “What if Andy Warhol did the windows at Buckingham Palace?” It is a melding of Old World notion of splendor and craftsmanship with New School sensibility.
