Verdura Target Brooch
Modern updates to classic jeweled brooches, hair pins, and charms have recently surfaced in boutiques and on the streets of Los Angeles. It would only appropriate that we turn to the originators of the style. Verdura rose to fame in the 1960’s as the head designer in charge of the Chanel boutique jewelry collection. Their eccentricity in design and the sheer quality of their pieces is ne’er matched. Featured above: Target Brooch in platinum, diamond and gold. Featured below: Octopus Brooch in south sea pearl with chite gold and diamond facade.

dori-csengeri-1.jpg

Award winning designer Dori Csengeri started out by creating beautiful and intricate jewelry designs her small Paris studio back in 1992. In the beginning, it was a small business, dedicated to making handmade pieces of jewelry that were both spectacular and wearable. Today, Dori Csengeri has evolved into an internationally acclaimed brand with notable followings in the United States, Europe and Japan. Inspired by art, organic forms and vivid colors, Dori’s pieces are intimate and evocative. She uses the same embroidery and beading techniques that female craftsmen have used for centuries in jewelry making. By merging old world craftsmanship with contemporary design, these pieces are reminiscent of generations of fashion icons. Made by and for women, Dori’s jewelry successfully transforms ordinary evenings into occasions worldwide.

Brazilian jeweler H. Stern has teamed up with Brazil’s premier contemporary ballet company, Grupo Corpo to capture their spirit in jewelry form. 63 dance-inspired pieces will make up 10 different jewelry lines, each named after one of Grupo’s signature performances. One highlight, in particular, is the spiral flower ring, inspired by Grupo Corp’s staging of 21, a dance piece featuring an immense patch-worked floral backdrop. Each piece comes nestled in a handcrafted, velvet lined, imbuia wood box and Grupo Corpo’s logo sealing the deal.

Cute. A term that is used excessively in a modern woman’s vocabulary, but that’s exactly why we love Alex+Chloe’s quirky and creative jewelry designs. With everything from necklaces to bracelets to rings we might have to buy an item or ten. No wonder why Visa sends us Christmas cards.

Simple necklaces featuring single tiny daggers and antler charms are the perfect accessory to any outfit since you can pick from a few different shades of silver and gold. These pieces carry a strong, straight-forward yet feminine statement that almost every girl would obsess about. Alex+Chloe shows us that you can shrink down a knife or a skull, and somehow make it cute and bad ass at the same time.

Log on to their website to check out additional designs and learn more about their pop up store here in Los Angeles through March 13th.

If you’re a fan of limited edition handmade designer art, jewelry and clothing you’ll probably be as happy as we were to discover Little Paper Planes. This site is run by Silverlake artist Kelly Lynn Jones who is a talented artist in her own right.

We were especially happy to see some of our favorite underground zines sold here such as FYEO and Broken Wrist Project (if you don’t live in LA, you’ll probably never find these and you are so missing out).

If you see an artist you like, you can probably find out more about them in Little Paper Planes Artist Interviews section.
