Built in cigarette lighters in cars are starting to feel like an anachronism which should be relegated to our parents’ generation. Simply taking the lighter coil out and calling it a power source doesn’t help either (at least with the lighter we stood a chance of surviving while stranded in the wilderness). What Belkin has done should be a watermark for car manufacturers everywhere. They have effectively fitted the car power outlet with a USB jack. So now you can charge your iPhone, iPod or other device easily while on the go. Sold in different configurations ranging from $15-30. More info here.

New iPod Shuffle

ipod-shuffle-2

The new super teeny tiny iPod shuffle is easily the coolest edition to date. This version has no controls on the unit itself, the the new standard headphones have a built in button with pause, skip, and previous controls. It will also read you the names of your playlists, artists and song titles in it’s weird little OK Computer voice. It’s a little smaller than a usb thumb drive, made of the same metal as the mac book line, and holds 1,000 songs (about as much at the original ipod).
While we’re probably going to stick with our iPhone for the moment, this would make a great addition for running, snowboarding, or any physical activity where it’s only a matter of time before we drop the phone and break it.

Introducing the smallest, most portable projector we’ve ever seen. The Pico Projector manages to squeeze a projector into a pocket sized device. The projector can display an image or video from as close as eight inches to as far as 8.5 feet away. It’s brightest when close and bigger the further away the surface. At its furthest, the screen is an impressive 65 inches. The resolution is a little less than you might get with a full size projector but totally adequate for casual viewing of movies (480×320). The list price is just over $400 and the Pico is slated for global release early next year with limited release beforehand.
