Ekelund
Swedish master weavers Ekelund, have been at it since 1692. With history like that one might expect them to be set in their ways. On the contrary, they have made a conscious effort at minimizing their impact on the earth. They have been approved by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation due to their environmentally friendly processes and the use of all natural materials. Read the rest of this entry »

Jed Crystal Minimal Lamp
When it comes to modern interiors there can be a tendency to accumulate a variety of structured and muted pieces making your spaces appear sterile and vacant. I like Jed Crystal’s Minimal Lamp to help break up the monotony. It takes modern in a more organic direction by accenting the sparse lighted core with a bulky knit shade. These can be hung in a variety of ways to make almost sculptural arrangements.

Jacuzzi Alpha Tub

The name Jacuzzi may conjour memories of cold suburban evenings, but the newest offering from Jacuzzi may change that impression. Jacuzzi recently partnered with the Italian design firm Pininfarina (of Ferrari fame) to create the sleekest tub we have seen yet. The “Alpha” tub is a sexy state-of-the-art whirlpool machine that seats two and contains overhead lighting, hydro-massage technology and a radio, providing you with a fun and unique bathing experience. What Jacuzzi was seeking from Pininfarina was the sense of craftsmanship and sex appeal that the Ferrari has and we think the “Alpha” tub fits the bill.

Harmonie-intérieure Home Decor
We are no stranger to wall applique, in recent years the medium has exploded with mostly contemporary designs which would compliment only the most modern spaces. French based design workshop Harmonie-intérieure has approached interior decor with antiquarian fervor. These stylized typography and graphic accents are designed to evoke an emotional response to design, says Fabien Barral, who heads the company with his wife Frédérique. The two have said they aim to harmonize living spaces with their products.

In what seems to be the love child of an Eames classic and a Villain Chair, Danish studio Strictly Design has produced this slick Lobster Chair to fill your lounging needs.

The interior padding is offered in black leather with a backing of laminated walnut veneer and a chrome plated steel base. If your looking for something that screams “I run the studio” and want to avoid the standard Eames models everyone else has,  this looks like a brilliant alternative.

Designer Daniela Bianka has completed a renovation of the entrance, reception and exhibition areas at the French National Space Agency (CNES) in Paris. The goal was to integrate the complex technical research conducted at the Space Agency as well as its vision of the future, combining science and imagination, into the physical space at the entrance of the building. The result is a conceptual “space of passage,” which explores the relationship between Man and the Universe. The reception “desk”, a single moulded Corian® form, extends from the floor to the ceiling, in part transparent, in part opaque and looks as if it is being poured from up high. It creates a place for interaction, between the Space Agency and visitors, between material and immaterial, between the present, here, and space.
