Walking through Los Angeles each day we see the same clothes, same shoes, same handbags. Everyone has to have them and most of the designers take obvious queues from each other. So when I saw a woman carrying a quality bag I didn’t instantly recognize, I had to stop her and find out who made it and where I could get one. It turns out there are several places to get them on the west side.

Hayden-Harnett has made a lasting impressions with the use of exotic leathers, unique finishes, and classic fabrics. Their diversity of style makes them a draw for everyday wear and for designer bags. Company head Toni Hacker draws from her industrial design background to create contemporary and functional designer hand bags. This young ambitious company is primed for success. I must say, I’m sold. My personal fave is the Beatrice: $485.

On a recent trip to Atlanta we noticed that both art and design are more prevalent than ever. For more than a decade now Atlanta has seen tremendous growth and with that growth comes the demand for more luxury goods. This is especially evident the boutique shopping areas such a Virginia Highlands. Here we found Highland Gifts for Men. This boutique caters to “the man who has almost everything.” We especially liked the Colonel Littleton Collection, namely the No. 1 Grip Bag (above), available at Highland Gifts for $650. I must say that there is definitely more demand for gentleman, and gentlemen have needs too.

It was time to get ourselves out of the city, and head for the diggs in the desert. So we’re in Las Vegas, the Angelino’s weekend get away. Shopping is abundant, and while visiting the Forum Shops at Ceasar’s we found the Lena handbag by Kooba. I must admit, I had never heard of Kooba previous to this visit but I am pleased to have found them. My current struggle with handbag design is that logos drive more 50% of the price and quality of design seems an afterthought. The Lena handbag is composed of quality leather, visually it is logo minimal, and the design is both pratical and stylish. Currently my sentiment towards high end fashion reads: I am ok with you branding your company, but I have a problem when you brand your logo on me.
