We’ve seen graffiti, and we’ve seen animation, but we’ve never seen anything quite like this. You remember that guy in art class who seemed to just draw on everything all the time? This is what happens when you let that guy loose in a blighted part of the city no one cares about. Now if only we could get him to come to LA.
We couldn’t find much info about this except that the artists handle is Blu and this piece, “Muto” was made over the course of a few months (no kidding, looks like this would take years) in Buenos Aires and Baden. If you have anymore info about his guy PLEASE post it in a comment.
We found the following message on Blu’s Blog, which we we think translates in propr engrish to “I keeps it real”-
I’m receiving loads of emails about Muto
I can’t reply to everyone so I try to do a quick resume.
if you are asking for advertising works the answer is: NO THANKS
if you are asking for music videos the answer is: see above
if you want to use it for any commercial purpose: see the license or read again the answer above.
for any other proposal: I will try to reply as soon as I canfor everyone else: thank you very much guys.
This years Cannes Film Festival is a buzz with today’s screening of Waltz with Bashir, director Ari Folman’s account drawing from his experiences in the Israeli Defense Force. The story details the Sabra and Shatila camp killings in 1982 from the view of a young Israeli soldier. The film is almost entirely animated and contains the actual voices many of the people depicted in the feature. Read the rest of this entry »
The most highly anticipated video game of the year is finally in stores worldwide today. That’s right, Rock Star Games has released the latest and greatest in the saga of criminal gaming behavior – Grand Theft Auto IV. It’s available for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and is now a Multiplayer game (up to 16 players - 15 game modes). The game is still rated M (Mature) and has reached a visual level of realism that you have never seen before in a video game. It runs on Rock Star’s game engine, R.A.G.E., which has many unprecedented characteristics such as real reflections in glass, cars, or water, more detailed road and building textures, and it uses Euphoria – an animation package created by Natural Motion, which uses Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) technology. This is the most awesome breakthrough for GTA IV gamers – characters in the game are now animated in a way you have never seen in a video game before. They can hang off the back of vehicles or helicopters, step off and up onto curbs, and even react realistically when hit by gunfire – like if a character is shot in the leg, he will limp. The way a character walks even changes when the terrain does.
The success of GTA has always been attributed to the fact that this is an “open world” game – meaning the location is vast and can be explored in depth by the player. The location this time is Liberty City, and the main character, Niko Bellic, is an eastern European immigrant who has come to America in search of a better life…only to find out that Liberty City is not the place to pursue the American dream. GTA IV takes a stronger turn towards storytelling also, although the storyline is a lot less linear than before. It is possible to do more than one mission at a time, and some missions take place over several days – which brings up the cellphone. Yes, Niko uses his cell to receive calls and make calls to help set up his missions. He could be waiting for days for phone calls to move forward on a mission, and in the meantime, he can go on dates…or frequent strip clubs. So, if you love cappin’ fools, stealin’ rides, and hangin’ with ho’s…today is your lucky day.
A previous post on Frozen Grand Central led us to this video of a musical erupting in a food court here in Los Angeles. The piece, performed by Improv Everywhere, reminded us to some extent of the classic Spike Jonze video for Praise You by Fatboy Slim. You can watch it by reading the full post. Both are great. Remember back when MTV played music? Have you even been alive that long? In a move that seems to be riding an inevitable trend of the collision of internet and television, indie music site Pitchforkmedia.com is launching an “Online Music Channel” april 7th at Pitchfork.tv
While we’re not exactly sure how an online music channel is different from a website (does that make YouTube.com and online video channel?), but it appears they will have the ability to watch video fullscreen and make your own playlists. Pitchfork is widely respected as the source for indie music on or offline and will be making available full-length feature films, vintage concerts, and music DVDs free of charge. “From the Pixies’ 2004 reunion tour film LoudQuietLoud and Todd Phillips’ notorious GG Allin documentary Hated, to Jimmy Joe Roche & Dan Deacon’s acid-drenched visual art piece Ultimate Reality, Pitchfork.tv will highlight a different film each week in its entirety.”
Congrats indie kids you finally got your wish, but you might as well shave the mustache now because once this blows up everybody’s going to be sporting one.
Even if you don’t know who Jill Greenberg is, you’ve probably seen one of her photographs in a magazine or on a billboard somewhere. When we checked out her site (which is an amazing little piece of flash handy work by Group94 BTW) we kept thinking to ourselves “seen that, love that show, have that record, etc.” Jill Greenberg is without a doubt one of the top portrait photographers working today, if you still don’t believe us you can see a few more shots by clicking read more below.
We were lucky enough to catch this unreleased gem from Fake Pilot for Sean John. For whatever reason this was never actually used, and will only ever live on Fake Pilots website. For the uninitiated, Fake Pilot tout’s himself as the best flash designer on the planet and honestly, he’s not lying. It’s like when Jay-Z says “I’m the greatest of all time” and you’re like “damn, he really is”.
Dude only calls himself a “Flash Designer” because there’s no job title like flash motion graphics director DJ rockstar (did we mention he writes all the music for these as well?). Guys like Fake Pilot exist just to take take our preconceived ideas of what’s possible and blow them up in our face.
Thanks to our friends at Computer Love for this.
What’s the secret to being a really good art director? Three words- Hire, Good, Photographers. If your marketing anything major to 15 to 35 set and you haven’t already hired Lyndon Wade to shoot your ad, you probably will. You might have to wait in line behind Coca Cola, Target, 50 Cent to get him on your project, but we suspect the result is worth it.
In the meantime you can click either of the images or the link below to see more of his work.
Some day, we’ll all have T-shirts this cool. Till then we’ll have to settle for rocking to Justice’s D.A.N.C.E. video with a T-qualizer. If you’re dying for one of the T’s in this video, we’ve heard Colette is your best bet.
