Jirat James Patradoon was born way too late, but that’s good for all of us. He should have been born 20 years earlier, and done skateboards for the bones brigade and graphic novels that would be turned into summer block busters. Luckily, we get him in our generation to take things a step further.
Patradoons work reminds us of being fourteen and and jacked up on jolt cola sneaking into Rocket From the Crypt shows. If you’re to young to remember the late eighties/early nineties, this stuff is like looking at the best parts of that era, but with a fresh new twist.

The San Diego Comic-Con 2008 kicks off (July 23rd Preview Night) and goes through (July 27th). For those of you who are familiar with this annual spectacle, you shouldn’t be too alarmed when encountering people from different states, countries, worlds, galaxies, or dimensions. For those of you who are not so familiar, get ready for an alternate reality of costumes, comics, & movies, not to mention the nightly rooftop parties where you may run into Batman (Christion Bale), Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.) or The Hulk (Ed Norton). Giant Robot started out at as a zine back in the early 90’s and has flourished in to the Asian pop culture force to be reckoned with. The magazine is still great, but giant robot since opened stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, they have become known as the place to find designer toys. They also have have cool t-shirts designed by the likes of Geoff Mcfetridge and lots of hard to find art books and magazines (If you get hungry, they’ve opened a (GR)eats next door to the West LA location on Sawtelle).
But our favorite part are the galleries at each of its retail locations. Giant Robot’s galleries showcase work from some of our favorite artists such as Rachel Sumpter, Jeff Soto, Souther Salazar, and many others.
