British artist Alan Jaras turns light into awesome works of art. A majority of the works are analogue images of the refraction patterns from a beam of light passing through a transparent object (Jaras uses pieces of textured glass). The image is captured directly on to 35mm film, no camera lens is used (a photogram using film instead of photographic paper), the transparent object replaces the lens. Jaras introduces color by placing specially prepared colored filters directly in the light beam. “These images have not been computer generated or color treated. The colors you see are a faithful reproduction of those captured on film,” says Jaras. Read the rest of this entry »
Brian Walker, a contemporary digital artist from Sydney completely fools us by making us think the beautiful faces and bodies in his work, are indeed real half princess and half mannequin women. Heavily influenced by the evolution of fashion and popular culture such as film, magazines and the internet, Walker’s inspiration is taken from the plasticization of the female form in fashion and online virtual dress up dolls. “I like the visual language of my images to appear hyper real, as if they could exist but a second take reveals something amiss or askew. The perfection of a single detail or the impossibility between elements is what I continue to find fascinating,” says Walker. Read the rest of this entry »
How is it possible to be gritty yet clean, racy yet innocent, and fresh yet classic all at the same time? Looking at Natasja Fourie’s photography doesn’t necessarily give us the answer, but it certainly proves it’s can be done.
Born way back in ‘86, here is another young artist paving the way with stunning photography. Fourie is recognized for a Gonzo approach in documenting her friends and their private lives, mixing photojournalism with fashion photography. Definitely check out her insane website that houses her work beautifully. The photographs say it all.
American photographer Andrew Bush captures people in their cars doing what we should be doing, driving. No cell phones, no fuss but some with an occasional map. Bush takes us back to time when it was just us and our car, and maybe a simple radio. In his series, ‘66 drives’ we get to spy on people across the United States, most in Los Angeles, singing, waiting at stop lights or driving on highways, the simpler things we used to do in our cars. This collection reminds us of a road trip across America but seems to travel back in time, as well as across state lines. Read the rest of this entry »
REBIRTH is a unique futuristic and provoking wooden sculpture by Belgian designer and artist, Arne Quinze commissioned for the well-known and distinguished five-star Paris hotel Le Royal Monceau on Avenue Hoche. The hotel will undergo a revamp courtesy of Philippe Starck, closing its doors for a full year.
REBIRTH debuted during an exclusive ‘Demolition Party’ and seemingly was pretty short lived since a group of exclusive VIP guests got to tear the building to shreds in ‘demolition style’ to celebrate the future redesign of the space.
Loïc Sattler is a French Art Director experienced in web, multimedia, print, clothes styling, and corporate identity. Back in 2003, he was working at a creative studio and the manager told Sattler that his abstract compositions with intense colors looked as if they were created by an artist that was on acid. Taking it as a compliment, he came up with the name for his online sanctuary, Lysergid.com which portrays his freelance and artistic works. This extreme portfolio is quite a mind blower and we just wonder how he does it all. Such intricate work and an insane attention to detail. How does one even dream up works like these? Completely breathtaking and mind numbing to say the very least! Read the rest of this entry »
