Alberto “Sting” Russo A.K.A. AreaDesign Creative Communications is both a Graphic Designer and Graffiti artist working out of Lausanne, Switzerland. Russo founded his studio back in 2000 and has quite a portfolio to show for it. The main drive is graphic design mixed with illustration, type treatments, and photography. Russo works with a wide range of industries and medias, from street art to corporations, and does it in a way that sets him way apart from the rest.
28-year-old American artist Cody Hoyt works and plays out of the South. Sarasota, Florida to be exact. Hoyt favors the use of silk screening, but also uses gouache, colored pencil, etching, acrylic, enamel, and photo lithograph and anything else he can think of. He has a wonderful collection chock full of album art, prints, drawings, posters and T-Shirts. His prints and drawings remind us of explosions coming to life on a simple piece of paper. German visual artist Sebastian Onufszak focuses mainly on vibrant print projects, engaging interactive media and swirling motion graphics. Since 2002 he has been working as an art director and freelancer for an international range of high-end clients, such as, SonyEricsson, Mercedes, Congstar, Red Bull, & Jeep. His own creation/portfolio, In Graphics We Trust, is true display of this man’s talent. Many projects include different type styles dancing along side an immense amount of photographs and repeated graphics in an array of gorgeous colors that bounce at your face. Much of this work is featured in numerous publications and exhibitions worldwide. Currently he is living in Duesseldorf, Germany and working for Parasol Island, an animation and design studio.
Elaborately staged photographs and breathtaking panoramic portraits are the specialty of Spanish photographer of Eugenio Recuenco. The elaborate set work in his work references golden era film making and classical painting, but has the high quality production value of modern image making. Vault49 is a collaboration between Jonathan Kenyon and John Glasgow that they launched during their final year at the London College of Printing in 2002. They quickly emerged as one of the UK’s leading and most innovative design teams with a broad portfolio of typography, illustration, photography, and art direction. After their relocation to New York City in 2004, the vault team continued to rack up their list of international clients including Samsung, Pepsi, MTV, Virgin Atlantic, and the New York Times. This multi-award-winning studio regularly exhibits their unique brand of design in solo and joint exhibitions between New York and London. Their 2006 exhibition entitled the “Greatest Show On Earth” was widely acclaimed in the international design press and also received on-air by BBC radio.
Acidtwist is a showcase for works by Tavish. He currently goes back and forth between San Francisco and Montreal, but grew up and spent much time in Central Canada. His cultural background includes both Scotland and Taiwan, an unusual combo that may explain edgy exploration of not quite asian yet not quite european characters that feel vaguely related to anime and ride that NSFW line straight to the edge without quite going over. This has garnered him recognition from The Art Directors Club and Print Magazine, among others (apparently japanese school girls have a global appeal, whoda thunk?). Tavish was also profiled in Illustration Now published by Taschen.
Several of his recent paintings feature a green-haired heroine named Lichen. She was invented specifically for an ongoing series exploring the modern concept of the character, a product of our overtly commercial times. Read the rest of this entry »
JPG Magazine (pronounced jay-peg) is a magazine, website, and community all in one beautiful, 6 issue a year package. This is definitely something for people who are into taking pictures on the whim with amazing, haphazard results. Anyone can join and upload photos and stories to their own member page or submit your work for a chance to be printed up in the next issue. How exactly do you get chosen? We [blink] is a system to design patterns on store front windows that react to people passing by and then transmits their graphical representation to other windows around the world.
