radiohead-limited-edition-1.jpgRadiohead released a new album this past week titled In Rainbows. We say released but more explanation is required. The album is available for free on their website. Those who download the album are asked to contribute what they feel is appropriate. A discbox (shown above) is also available containing the album on CD, two 12 inch records, an enhanced CD with addtional songs, and additional materials in a harback book with slipcase. The package costs about $80.

This marks Radiohead’s seventh album and the first after the completion of their six album contract with EMI. All eyes in the music industry are on the new model which if successful is a real threat to the existing music distribution network.

In contrast to the fully layered sound of previous songs. Much of the album has a vacant sound (enhanced by the treatment of the vocals) reminiscent of being up at alone in the early hours of the morning. The audio sample below is from a song titled Weird Fishes_Arpeggi.
