While I was waxing nostalgic at the news of a Pavement’s upcoming “best of” release this March, I got thinking about how much I absolutely love Cymbals Eat Guitars. In early 2009 they self-released Why There Are Mountains, an incredibly accurate throwback to early nineties indie rock. The NY based quartet un-apologetically mimic influences like Sunny Day Real Estate, Weezer, and Modest Mouse while dashing in a bit Zep for good measure. Since 2009 is over and done with, I can safely say this was one of if not my fave release of the year. Enjoy!
