Featured Artist – Banksy
We felt it necessary to blurb a bit about the illusive Banksy’s Barely Legal show here in LA this passed weekend. This highly anticipated event drew a star studded line of onlookers and passersby. Just a few of the celebrities in attendance were Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Shepard Fairey, Perry Farrell (formerly Jane’s Addiction), Zack De La Rocha (formerly of Rage Against the Machine), Meg White (of the White Stripes), Jason Lee, and Jared Leto just to name a few.
Most of the buzz from the show stemmed from the live pink and gold painted elephant displayed in the living room setting. This drew heavy criticism from PETA, who began handing out bills to attendants in protest of the event.
As hoards of people lined up outside the downtown Los Angeles warehouse, attendants filed through rooms filled with stencils of work we’ve seen and some we haven’t. Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz brandished a noose on one side of a police van while a swat team brandished weapons on the other. A stencil of two British police officers embraced on the inside.
A collection of sculptures littered the space. The statue of David wore a Kevlar vest, a bust shot in the head, and an angel with a security camera in place of her head.

So much meaning is into all of them…..Beautiful!

Why do I think that Banksy wouldn’t give a shit that brad pitt and his wife (or any celebrity) showed up? I figure he’s probably working on some stencils with them as the subject back at his studio.
Or maybe not, Angelina has done some good things in the name of humanity. And after all its our media and the general public that makes them “celebrities”. And then Banksy is an artists with broad appeal, brought to us by the media and the internet, its funny how these things get so convoluted.
Good work anyway. I enjoy them especially the hard to look at ones. Banksy, may I ask that you refrain from painting any more elephants? I have seen the Edison footage too many times.

Banksy is undeniable genius and anyone who has anything different to say, is welcome to their view, marginal and pointless are optional extras but if your going to put your head in your douche bag then you might as well spit some of the contents around for art’s sake after all hey!

Banky IS an amazing artist. To me, the point of art is painting something controversial. I believe Art isn’t Art unless people can argue about it. That is exactly what this Artist has done. And he has done it with Flare. No one knows who he is, and yet, he has caused arguements, controversy and general confusion and laughter.
What could be better than that? My hat is off to you Banky.

I have never heard of this artist, Banksy his work is very different but you can feel his passion in every piece I would love to see it up close and see ever detail in person, I think that his work could very well grow on me.

Its funny how even a world reknowned artist like Banksy can have trolls come to his site. I love the messages more then art of Banksy, though that is not to say it isn’t brilliant in itself. Just keep doing what you do Banksy, the critics (and trolls) are just ill informed and desperate for attention. You on the other hand, use your art to bring attention to the messages; not yourself.

That’s some mighty fine stuff you’ve got there Banksy. It’s funny, thought provoking, infuriating, puzzling, iconic, ironic and a gift to the world. I love the one of the cops (authority figures) wrestling with what I suppose is street art. Neither side appears to be winning the classic struggle between art and authority. Great storytelling and while I may agree or disagree with his message, I am thrilled with his telling of the story…it it does what great art should do, it makes you think. Way to go Banksy…high fives from Texas!
