If you’ve been under a rock for the last decade and you haven’t heard of Tomato UK that’s all the more reason to go to this event. Tomato UK is an Art / Design / Music collective consisting of many members including Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, of Underworld who all but created the sound track of the nineties.
Tomato members Michael Horsham, Dylan Kendle, and John Warwicker will cross a continent and an ocean to share their secrets on all aspects of art ranging from commercial print to music and sound to architectural design. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and gain insight from an amazing group with valuable experience with cross-platform art. Horsham will present a general selection of work, Kendle will present film work and Warwicker will discuss process – Tomato’s philosophy and approach to making work.

The DVD compilation features nearly three hours of videos and behind-the-scenes content and videos from artists like Paul McCartney, Beck, The White Stripes, Radiohead, Bjork and many more! Due to time constraints, signing is limited to only the new DVD title.

Michel Gondry began his filmmaking career directing music videos for such artists as The White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Beck, and Daft Punk. In 2001, Gondry made his feature-film directorial debut, Human Nature, from a screenplay by Charlie Kaufman. After working with Kaufman again on the Academy Award-winning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gondry went on to write and direct the films The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind, and helm the documentary concert film Dave Chappelle’s Block Party. DVD collections of Gondry’s exemplary music videos and commercials were released in 2003 and 2009. He has recently authored a guide for DIY filmmaking entitled You’ll Like This Film Because You’re In It: The Be Kind Rewind Protocol and a comic book “We Lost the War but Not the Battle,” available through Gondry’s website, michelgondry.com. Gondry’s documentary, The Thorn in the Heart, premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories for release. He is about to begin production on The Green Hornet, a feature film about the iconic superhero that will star Seth Rogen, to be released in 2010 by Columbia Pictures.

Best known for it’s burgeoning indie and metal scenes, “the OC” has quickly taken a turn for better days, as folk rockers Moostache emerge the unsuspecting local. Brothers Patrick, Sean, and Brian Wardell bring an array of sophisticated arrangements and catchy harmonies that give the album its accessibility and flair. The bands most recent addition and no stranger to OC indie is former Odd Project lead guitarist Scott Zschomler, who’s now gracing the stage with the occasional banjo in hand evoking bits of folk and Americana with wonderfully bluesy guitar solo’s to boot. Taking the reigns from greats like Dr. Dog, Moostache is sure to be a mainstay in a folk rock resurgence that’s well overdue.

The Dead Weather- Treat Me Like Your Mother

We’re almost shocked at how little buzz we’ve been hearing about the new Jack White/Alison Mosshart colab The Dead Weather. Watching this video reminded us of The Clash’s “Rock The Casbah” video, harkening back to an era where larger than life personas oozed rockstar cool to a banging soundtrack. In a day and age where there’s not much music left that sounds like you could pick up some guitars and tear the roof off with a good cover, The Dead Weather delivers in spades. We don’t expect this to inspire young musicians to drop Protools and go back to garage rock, but thank god someone is still doing this. Jack White, if you’re listening, please produce an Iggy Pop record next.
