With all of the sleep assistance innovations introduced in the past few years, many have departed from the luxury of well constructed furniture. We were pleased to discover The Float bed. Created by Danish furniture designer Max Longin this new approach takes night time comfort to levels not seen since the water bed. Drawing from the notion that we all long to be cradled and rocked just as infants do, the Float bed allows each individual to find their own center on the suspended platform, which moves when you move.
Each piece is handmade and finished by the designer himself. Which explains the hefty price tag at $8,200 to start. For some of us a good nights sleep might be worth the set back.

The world renowned Saatchi Gallery in London is preparing to release it’s first retrospective book titled “The Saatchi Opus” in February 2009. Coming in at a scant 850 pages, the book chronicles some of the most important artist of the last to decades Lucien Freud, Damien Hirst, and Zhang Xiaoghang. The text includes essays by leading art critics Richard Cork and Brian Sewell, Sir Norman Rosenthal, former Secretary of Exhibitions at The Royal Academy of Art, and actor Steve Martin.
The Saatchi Opus is limited to 950 copies all signed by Mr. Saatchi himself. We’re guessing there’s some images you won’t ever see any where else (if you’ve ever tried to find a Lucien Freud print you know what I’m talking about). The exclusivity is included in the price tag, pre-publication price is £1,950 ($3,188). But since this is really a piece of art in and of itself, we’re guessing it will be worth double that in 5 years if you can find some one willing to part with it.

Heather Mae Erickson says that she’s challenging the way we perceive the dining ritual. We completely agree. Her foundations stem from her time studying at Helsinki and Cranbrook. Her work, while inspired by Finnish designs, is pushing the aesthetics of the dining experience. Architecture, spacial, and environmental design are all referenced in these unique handmade pieces. With intricate patterns created by servers, compotes, and comets, these complex settings enhance the way we encounter cuisine.

Our Friends at Filter and Apartment 3 are throwing what looks to be a kick ass befit for the Obama campaign this Saturday night from 7-11pm. We caught a sample sale this group did last year (minus the art show and DJ’s) at the Beauty Bar and scored two designer jackets, a tshirt and a wallet for $80. The art and DJ’s are certainly a bonus, and since People Food is on the flier maybe we’ll be lucky enough to catch a set. $10 donation goes to the Obama campaign but like most Filter events YOU MUST RSVP!

We wish all retailers had this kind of imagination. Clark Shoes commissioned London based studio ROSO to install this beautiful piece in the courtyard of their corporate headquarters.
The concept is an elaboration of nature- light is only seen when reflected. A light beam coming through a window is only visible because light is reflected in the millions of dust particles floating in the air.
