It’s wonderful to come across a strange collection of any sort. One such website is Strange Maps. Here you can find classics like the Minard Map, by Charles Joseph Minard, which depicts Napoleon’s Russian campaign of 1812. Seen above, the graphic simultaneously displays geography, time, temperature, course of movement, and troops remaining. Infographics giant Edward Tufte describes it as “the best statistical graphic ever drawn”.
Other maps are equally compelling. Either for their ability to display complex information or for the beauty of execution.
