Once referred to as “The only band that matters,” The Clash were not only at the beginning of Punk Rock, but arguably the end of it as well. We were unbelievably excited a few years back when we heard Joe Strummer and Mick Jones had finally got on the same stage again in 2002, only to be heart broken by Strummer’s passing later that year.
We caught Julien Temple’s amazing tribute doc “Joe Strummer, The Future is Unwritten” and loved it. This was a very interesting look at the beginnings of the punk era The Clash helped to usher in (partly by cannibalizing the hippie counter culture scene) as well as Strummers relationship with fame, success, and the inevitable demise of Punk itself.
