Paula Hayes creates incredibly complex terrariums which are built in curved hand-blown glass forms. The resulting objects are delicately composed and reflect a sculptural sensability. Born in Concord, Massachusetts, Paula earned her Bachelor of Science at Skidmore College followed by her MFA in sculpture from Parsons. Since then she has had a long list of solo and group exhibitions. The delicate nature of her work makes us almost empathetic toward it.

Nike Air Jordan XX3

Ever since their release, the Nike Air Jordan’s have become a cultural phenomenon. It’s now been 23 years, and they are not slowing down in trying to make the best (basketball) shoe ever. From going to Milan and getting the softest leather on the planet. To getting design queues from the great Spanish cities of Europe. This shoe has not skipped the smallest detail (literally) and definitely makes you take a second look at those beat Pumas you’re wearing. With all this impressive attention to engineering detail, it makes you wonder what if NASA had worked with Team Jordan? Would we have cities on the Moon by now? We probably would, and we would all be wearing the sickest (moon) kicks too.

Xtrabold has some nicely executed design/illustration on his site. The illustration above was a standout (Pop Rocks meets space = awesome) although all the work is great. If you like this particular illustration as much as we do, there is a link to hi-res wallpapers on the work page.

Our friends at The Groop are putting on a series of free seminars for Creative Proffesionals titled “I want to Be an Evil Businessman- Why Creatives Fail at Business”. These seminars are geared to deliver some much needed education to the creative community by helping creative types (artists, designers, musicians, film makers, etc.) understand how to let go of their day job, start a business, and keep it profitable. As described by the hosts, “This one day seminar will introduce creatives to the fundamentals of achieving business success in 3 easy steps. The first we call life branding, the second is business planning and the final part is measuring success, a simple money management system for creatives.“Neu Black whole heatedly supports any efforts by Creative Professionals to take the skills they use to make other people money and put them to use for themselves. As creatives start our own businesses we take financial, creative, and personal control of our careers and our lives. This control garners respect from other professionals, gives us the power to make high level decisions, and allows us to charge for our services accordingly.Only 20 seats are left for this event.Find out more and register today at: http://www.evilbusinessman.comThe first seminar is being held-Sunday, January 27 2008.12:30 pm - 5:00 pmArt Center College of Design South Campus950 S. We made a stop at the new Scrawl Collective opening “Special Relationship” at Scion’s Installation LA space last Saturday night and we were not dissapointed. While there was some great work over all, we were especially impressed with the work of Will Barras.
As with all of the UK based Scrawl Collective members, Barras belongs to the tagger-turned-gallery-artiist set and currently resides in London.
You can check out Barras’s website, but when we did a little homework and searched “Will Barras” on flickr, we struck gold. You can view the results from this as well as a few other scrawl collective shows here.
