One of our favorite photographers these days is Brooklyn based artist Peter Beste. He’s best known for his work with bands in the Nowegian Black Metal scene. This odd European subculture of music is kind of like the speed metal of the early nineties, but with people actually killing each other. Kind of like gansta rap but with goth kids. Oh wait, did we mention Beste did a fantastic series on the Houston Crunk scene as well? Yeah, check out his work for yourself. He’s just released the Japanese edition of his book, which comes with a card board sleeve you can unfold into a cross and hang upside down on your wall.

Adobe is making a beta version of Photoshop CS3 available on it’s website for public download. It’s free if you have a Photoshop CS2 serial number, or you can try it for 30 days free if you don’t.
Although the core is still the same photoshop we know and love, CS3 is a huge update. Our favorite new feature is a collapsable palette system similar to InDesign’s. Photoshop goes a step further however by allowing multiple tiers of collapsed menus which can be grouped together however you like. In their collapsed state they are represented by icons that make finding what your looking for faster and easier.
The new version is optimized for macs with the new Intel chips, but runs fine on our G5 with a Motorola processor. For a full demo of all the new features, check out Lynda.com’s quicktime videos.

The Loft Cube is a new and interesting take on modular prefab housing. It’s designed with a chic modernist aesthetic we’ve come to expect from prefabs but with an added twist. The Loftcube is designed to utilize the empty rooftops common in so many urban areas. It’s even possible to have your Loft Cube transported from one location to another if you decide to move.
